Lancashire Night

Following a last minute rush for tickets, this event saw a packed hall at the Royal British Legion, Burscough.

Last minute changes to the programme, due to illness on the part of two of the performers, meant a slightly different feel to the evening. However, it was a great success with the audience, whose enjoyment was evident throughout.

Mark Dowding and Sid Calderbank masterminded the running order and once again, both gave excellent and highly entertaining performances. The regular support of these popular and professional entertainers is, as always much appreciated.

Newburgh Morris gave two wonderful and very energetic displays of dancing, expertly accompanied by their entourage of musicians! Their continued support of this event is also much appreciated.

Our thanks go to Chris Harvey and Linda Green, who were ‘persuaded’ at the last minute, to perform, in the absence of John McAllister and Liz Calderbank, both of whom were unable to perform through illness.

The ever popular ‘Warrikin Fair’ dialect story and song ‘Prater Pie’, from Sid, and songs such as ‘John Willie’s Ferret’ and ‘The Calico Printer’s Clerk’ from Mark, as well as songs of Lancashire’s industrial past from Mark and Chris were well received by an appreciative audience; as was Linda’s singing of the Edwin Waugh song ‘A Lift On The way’. The Hot Pot Supper Company once again provided the refreshments and the number of requests for ‘seconds’ is testimony to the quality of the hot pot!

The event raised a total of £633.00 for Belarus Aid and our thanks go to all those who supported the event in any way – the performers for giving their services free of charge, those who donated raffle prizes or made donations to the charity (particularly one member of the British Legion, who made a very generous donation) and the audience for supporting us by buying tickets and having a great time!!
